"Def Jam recordings was born of a good, if unlikely, idea, and has lived to celebrate its tenth anniversary -and to look beyond it into the 21st century- because of the vision of its founders, the strength of its artists, the promotional genius and hard work of its staff and, finally, because of its dedication to that founding idea: that black youth culture has been and remains a fountain of creativity whose products will find an audience in the world beyond the ghetto."
